May Update

Time certainly starts to accelerate at this time of year with the start of racing season, end of year exams and coaching commitments filling up the calendar and it’s so good to feel like we are coming back to some sort of normality after such a long winter of lockdown!

We have just done our first race of the season on Redshift which was a bit of a drift to Bembridge Ledge and back but it was a great way to check all of the modifications that have happened in the shed over the winter and figure out what else needs doing before the first overnight qualification race of the year which is at the end of the month, when the Fastnet campaign begins in earnest.

I’m really excited to be involved in coaching a JPK 10.80 for their Fastnet Campaign too, its really rewarding to work with such a driven team and even though some of the work is being done virtually, its a really fun challenge for me to make sure we make the most of the time we have planned on the water so they can be in the best shape possible come August!

I have also been asked to write a monthly column for Yachtracing.life in the build up to the Olympics with the aim of promoting some of the personalities of the sailors who we expect to be in the running for the medals and what it takes on a daily basis to campaign at that level, I caught up with Justin Chisholm last week for a bit of a chat and to introduce the column and you can listen to the podcast here: https://yachtracing.life/the-yacht-racing-podcast-hannah-diamond/

Also, how can I forget that it was announced during the first Sail GP event of Season 2 in Bermuda last week that I will be one of 6 female triallists hoping to gain a place on the British Sail GP team for the remainder of this year, I will be joining the team in Plymouth in July to fight for my spot on the team and I’m really excited to jump on the F50 after the original plan to hold a trial in Weymouth in March was unfortunately cancelled due to the lockdown! Here is the article from The Telegraph: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/sailing/2021/04/19/hannah-mills-aiming-make-history-securing-place-ben-ainslies/

I’ve had so many enquiries through my website for coaching and speaking so THANK YOU to everyone who reads my updates or verifies who I am through the pages that are on here and if you do have any feedback, please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions!
