A whole racing season in 1 month?
From no racing between March and July to a full month of racing, albeit with some Covid-19 restrictions, it has been so great to get back out on the water and racing again in August, we began with RORC Race the Wight, with a maximum of 6 crew per boat, we raced around the Isle of Wight in a perfect building SW’ly up to 22 knots on Fast 40+ Redshift - there’s plenty to do with 5 fewer crew than normal! Everyone came back to the dock with a huge smile and we got a reminder of how much racing fitness has a part to play in a 5 hour race - it took me a good few days to recover from grinding from the Needles to Bembridge!
Since then we’ve had two rounds of Fast 40+ racing, still with a reduced crew meaning we’ve had to juggle the roles around a bit to make sure we are up to pace. The rest of the season will be packed into the next few months before the weather gets too cold but we’ll be digging out some thermals for the final round in November, a bit of a contrast to the heatwave that we were lucky enough to have for most of the summer!
