2025 looking a little different…

Life has looked pretty different over the past few months, just as last April we headed out to Barcelona with 100% focus on the Women’s America’s Cup, this winter has been all about focussing on my other interests, skills and work projects. We had a fantastic couple of weeks in the Alps with a huge amount of snow which provided an opportunity to test the ski legs but also take some time to really consider how to balance work projects going forwards.

SailGP Commentary Studio

Having been involved with SailGP for the last 3.5 years, I really felt as though I wanted to spend some more time at home and not be flying long haul for a week a month and return to either studying or work fighting an 8 hour time difference on a regular basis. Of course I miss SailGP but I have managed to get my fix by becoming part of the commentary team for the live broadcast. My first event was LA but that doesn’t mean any long haul flying for me…the broadcast is produced in a studio in Ealing so just a trip up the M3 for me and some late nights to account for the time difference means it is a much more approachable offering and I get to talk about sailing which is one of my favourite things to do! I join a formidable duo of Todd Harris and Stevie Morrisson who are a hilarious double act with endless energy which makes the whole thing really fun to be part of, and less intimidating when I really didn’t feel like I knew what I was doing!

I have also been kept busy but working in a local private physiotherapy clinic which has been great to build some routine alongside gaining my Intermediate Trauma Medical Management in Football ( ITMMiF) qualification which allows me to work Pitchside, the course I attended was at St George’s Park which is an incredible venue and amazing to see the resources that are available in football, the grounds themselves were enormous and the facilities available to the England teams are really second to none - above all I am such a fan of sport for so many reasons so to get to travel for work to be immersed in these sorts of environments feels so inspiring. It is a really tough course where they put you through your paces on pre-hospital care for any eventuality that could occur during training and matches. From CPR to managing anaphylaxis to concussive head injuries, I learnt a huge amount and although I hope I don’t have to use all of the skills learnt, it definitely made me feel more prepared to dealing with such a situation. I have been on quite a few courses with a fairly similar syllabus but this was by far the most detailed and in-depth with rigorous assessment in order to pass.

I have been supporting the Southampton FC Girls Academy, predominantly with the U14 team which has been fantastic, and I love being part of a team of physios who can share learnings and ideas to provide great care for these future professional athletes.

Over the summer, I hope to establish more of my own clients within sailing and watersports to share my knowledge and passion for human performance to help people get the most out of themselves and their bodies - if this is something that is of interest to you or your organisation or team then please do not hesitate to get in touch!
